Train derailment in West-Bolton

By Gordon Lambie

Things went off the rails a little bit this weekend near the corner of Foster and Brill roads in West Bolton; train cars, specifically. Just after 4:30 p.m. Saturday a train carrying paper products and lumber partially derailed near the Brill Road crossing. According to Sergeant Marie-Michele Moore of the Sûreté du Québec, no one was injured in the incident. Loren Allen, who lives nearby, said that he was at the crossing watching the train go by at the time. “I saw it all happen,” Allen said, explaining that the cars seemed to derail in slow motion. Although the full train was in the range of 50 cars, the eyewitness said that it was only five of the last seven wagons that fully or completely came off the tracks, starting about 100 yards from the crossing. “It was a kind of an “oh heck, what’s happening?” moment,” Allen reflected, sharing that he doesn’t remember any noise other than the ringing of the crossing signals as the derailment happened.
