Val-des-Sources fire still under investigation

The Régie du bâtiment du Québec (RBQ) is continuing to gathering information as to the source of an explosion and ensuing neighbourhood fire in Val-des-Sources last week.
RBQ spokesperson Sylvain Lamothe told The Record that he was unable to provide any details about the origin of the fire until a full investigation has been completed. An RBQ investigator was sent over to Val-des-Sources on Tuesday. They spent the entire day collecting information.
However, Lamothe noted it appears the property owner where the fire started in the small town had been operating, filling and storing propane without a provincial permit. There are security measures to follow, and clearly the owner didn’t adhere to these rules, he explained Thursday.
The situation is slightly shrouded in mystery because of the extent of the fire damage on the home. If the RBQ report finds any fire safety violations, then the property owner could face fines anywhere between $1,200 and $18,000. It is not a trivial infraction, Lamothe shared.
