At its Sept 20 meeting the municipal council for the Val-Saint-François regional county municipality (MRC) adopted the first regional plan for wetlands and bodies of water in the Eastern Townships.
The adoption of the new plan follows a new obligation from the provincial government under the Act respecting the conservation of wetlands and bodies of water. This plan is the result of a large amount of collective work carried out over a period of nearly 20 months between staff of the MRC as well as the partners in the community.
“Wetlands and bodies of water occupy an area of 25,996 ha, or 18.2 per cent of the territory of Val-Saint-François,” specified Luc Cayer, Mayor of Stoke and Prefect of the Val-Saint-François MRC, in a press release accompanying the announcement of the plan.

Anyone looking for more detailed information about the plan can check the MRC’s website or send an email to prmhh@val-saint-francois.qc.ca.
