Wales Home residents to receive vaccine on Sunday

After having their immunizations pushed back because of a national shortage in vaccines, Wales Home residents are finally getting vaccinated on Sunday.
On Jan. 20, Wales announced everyone in the CHSLD branch had received the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine. According to the Équipe de Santé Publique de l’Estrie, residents in private residences were next in line once doses started coming in.
With the existing shortage in vaccines, however, residents were skeptical things would return to normal before the fall. Brendalee Piironen, executive director at Wales Home, admitted she had mentally prepared herself and the residents to only be vaccinated in March – so, the news came as a pleasant surprise.
“We are just happy that our residents are getting vaccinated,” said Piironen.
According to Piironen, CIUSSS employees will start administering doses of the Pfizer vaccine on Sunday morning to make sure all residents are vaccinated. Unlike its counterpart, the Pfizer vaccine is a little trickier to administer because of its shorter shelf life, so small-wave vaccinations were not an option.
