The cold snap over the weekend caused numerous breakdowns in some of the Sherbrooke facilities of the CIUSSS de l’Estrie – CHUS, leading to some inconveniences and service reorganization for users.

Two sprinkler systems burst, one at the main door and one at door 7 of the Hôtel-Dieu de Sherbrooke, causing major water damage on Saturday.

Drying and dehumidification work is underway by a specialized firm and will continue for several days. The first floor and level 0 of the C wing of the hospital were particularly affected. According to a press release sent out Sunday afternoon, one entire area of the emergency department had to be closed and another partially closed temporarily, resulting in the opening of a non-traditional care site in the clinical simulation center on the fifth floor of the hospital.

The users present at the time of the water rupture were moved to safe locations, such as the temporary care site or to additional beds in care units.
