According to Nathalie Dupuis, The Mayor of Waterville, the idea of turning the old l’Assomption-de-la-Bienheureuse-Vierge-Marie church into a new multifunctional community centre is no small feat, but it is also a dream that the town council is willing to work on.
“It’s kind of a long-shot project,” she said, “but we want something that could respond to a wider need.”
That need, according to the mayor, is a space that can accommodate the existing community centre, which operates as a non-profit organization, as well as the municipal library, the golden age club, the local historical society, and possibly others in the future.
