By Matthew McCully – It’s not just people who are affected when there is a heat wave. While most dogs would never say no to a walk or a game of fetch in the backyard, owners should keep in mind that pets can overheat, but they can’t say when they are too hot. While it is obvious to most dog owners, it bears repeating that leaving a dog in a hot car is never ok, even if it’s just for a quick trip into a store. Other things to consider are walking long distances with dogs on hot pavement, or running a dog in the full sun when there is no water to hydrate or place to cool down.
