Weekend vaccination walk-ins welcome

On Feb. 12 and 13, vaccination centres across the territory of the CIUSSS de l’Estrie-CHUS will be open for walk-ins wishing to receive a first, second or third dose of vaccine against COVID-19.

The opening hours of the participating vaccination centres, located in Coaticook, Cowansville, East Angus, Granby, Lac-Mégantic, Magog, Sherbrooke, Val-des-Sources and Windsor are available on the www.santeestrie.qc.ca website.
During a press conference on Wednesday, Dr. Luc Boileau, the province’s interim public health director told reporters that close to 50 per cent of the Quebec population has been infected with COVID-19 since the beginning of the pandemic. Around two million people, representing almost a quarter of Quebec’s population, have been infected since the beginning of the fifth wave, Boileau said.

The interim public health director added that the fifth wave is expected to be well under control by Mid-March, when health restrictions are scheduled to be lifted, with the exception of mask mandates and vaccine passports.

The province reported 31 new deaths on Wednesday, for a total of 13,582 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.
Hospitalizations in the province dropped by 32 compared to the previous day, for a total of 2,348. The number of patients in intensive care in Quebec was 171, down seven from the day before.

Three new deaths were reported in the Estrie on Wednesday, and there were 139 Covid-related patients in local hospitals, with eight in intensive care.
