Looking ahead to this coming summer, the city of Sherbrooke is getting ready to send Wellington Street back out to sea. Building on the model of the “Wellington sur mer” urban oasis that was set up on the street in the summer of 2020, the plan for 2021 involves dedicating more space to pedestrians on the downtown street between mid-June and the beginning of October.
The decision to renew the project comes based on the results of a survey sent out after the initial edition last fall. In response to the question “would you like to see a similar project in the Wellington North area in the summer of 2021?” 58 per cent of business owners replied, ‘yes, certainly’ and 35 per cent replied ‘yes, under certain conditions.’
