Zumba at the Wales

Legs were dancing and arms were waving at the Wales Home on Monday as the weekly Zumba class got the residents grooving once again.
The exercise, led by therapy department staff Nadia Boissonneau and Edith Bourassa, started three years ago as a fun and energetic way for the seniors to keep moving. The low-intensity workout is set to classic tunes and has around 20 residents doing a curated set of moves for each song.
The idea came from Bourassa’s love of dance.
“I’ve been dancing all my life, I did social dance with my brother when I was younger,” she said. “Even playing Just Dance with the kids at home gives me stuff I can try here.”
Along with Boissonneau, Bourassa said she turned the passion into a fun and simple exercise for folks to enjoy which involves sets of three or more moves that have them moving along to the beat of the song.
