Celebrating the Korman family

Over fifty years ago, Fred and Lillian Korman embarked on a very special adventure. Together, they opened up the doors to Owl’s Head in 1965 and worked hard to establish one of the best resorts for skiing and golfing in the province. Beyond the hill, the Kormans have always been active in the community and contributed significantly to the growth and prosperity of Potton. In recognition of that fact, the municipality will recognize the contributions made by the Korman family at a special event scheduled for August 11. The Record recently spoke with Fred and Lillian, along with their daughter Caroll, to discuss their journey with Owl’s Head and their involvement in the community over the years. As a kid, Fred would ski around his family’s home but said it wasn’t something he did often as he grew up. “As a kid, it gave us something to do. I did some skiing at Jay Peak but I wasn’t a big skier,” he shared. The decision to open Owl’s Head seemed like a good opportunity from a business perspective. “At that time, different ski areas were opening up. There was Jay Peak, Bromont, Orford, and Sutton.
