Proof hard work pays off

Some folks might remember the Festival du Lait in Coaticook, an event focused on the reputation this region has for its quality milk production and outstanding examples of Holstein breed animals. But organizers needed to find another, larger site and many dreamed of turning this event into a bona fide county fair. Among those first founding enthusiasts was Roger Lapointe and his wife Louise, both devoted advocates of the county fair idea and, according to Lapointe, the organization’s determination has resulted in the county fair opening its gates this weekend. “It’s been a long struggle,” Lapointe remembered. Moving to the Ferme du Plateau, located in one of the most picturesque corners of the area and the site of the region’s school of animal husbandry and horticulture meant beginning with very limited facilities.
