A fire in the Town of Bury overnight from Tuesday to Wednesday destroyed another unoccupied building, this time on Stokes Street. This marks the sixth fire the small community has seen since mid-May, and the fifth unoccupied building destroyed late at night.
Sergeant Aurelie Guindon of the Sûreté du Québec told The Record that the fire was reported around 12:40 a.m. and that although the building is considered a residence, it housed a daycare.
“No one has been hurt.” The SQ officer said, noting that the building was empty at the time.
An investigation has been launched into the fire and Guindon said teams were on site to determine the cause. She emphasized the fact that the origins of the fire are unknown and said it cannot be officially linked to any of the other fires that has taken place since May.
“We have nothing concrete to report to the public at this time,” she said when asked about the investigations regarding the other fires.
Guindon acknowledged that the fires are a source of concern to many members of the community, but stressed that the police cannot confirm a link between any of the fires without evidence.
