Local study looks at the impact of COVID-19 on children’s mental health

The past nine months have been anything but normal. In addition to the threat of a fast-spreading virus, its effect on people’s mental health and well-being, especially children, has been a growing concern.
A new study on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on children’s mental health has provided insight into how they feel and includes recommendations to promote and support their well-being.
The research, conducted in two parts, was completed by CIUSSS de l’Estrie-CHUS researchers Dr. Chantal Camden from the University of Sherbrooke and Dr. Catherine Malboeuf-Hurtubise from Bishop’s University and was funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR). “We got a knowledge synthesis grant from the CIHR to see what empirical evidence and research had been published concerning COVID-19 and child mental health,” said Malboeuf-Hurtubise. “Then, the second part was conducting interviews with families from the Townships and other regions of Quebec.”
