The format of a My Take is 150 words – no more, no less – to express an opinion on a different topic each week. This week’s topic was the vax tax.
My shoulder is tender. Just back from my booster, so I’m in the majority: vaccinated, tired and ready to move on with balancing risk and reward in the endemic phase, when waves come and go again without crashing into our hospitals and swamping our lives.
I texted an acquaintance last night, “Can’t wait to meet in the Aftertimes and reminisce about the Beforetimes… once we break free of these interminable Betweentimes.”
What was this “announcement” of a “significant” “tax” on the “unvaccinated” anyway? It’s not entirely clear what those words mean. Each one is a moving target, defined in the mind of the beholder, changing based on the fears or hopes it provokes in each of us.
We’ve all sacrificed. We’re all tired. “Someone oughtta pay for what you’ve lost!”
It’s always made for great politics and questionable policy when the tail wags the dog.
