Nearly 150 people including locals, vacationers and visitors, attended a party in Potton’s Green Mountains on Sunday, Sept. 18 to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the Ruiter Valley Land Trust. Attendees enjoyed hikes, speeches, activities and a country meal, and also managed to raise $10,000 for the Trust.
An important conservation organization in the Eastern Townships, the Ruiter Valley Land Trust was the very first of its kind to be established in Quebec, in 1987, and has been a source of inspiration ever since.
According to a press release, during the event president of the organization Marie-Claire Planet said she was proud of the Land Trust’s achievements over the past 35 years. “I am delighted with the growing support for the Trust and conservation. We feel that citizens want to get involved and want more protection of nature in the Eastern Townships and throughout Quebec,” Planet said.
The Ruiter Valley Land Trust protects approximately 800 acres, mainly in Potton, and it exists and operates through the contribution of volunteers and donations from citizens and foundations.
