Mother Nature twisted holiday plans

On Thursday night into Friday morning, Mother Nature delivered a wallop to many across North America and the Townships were not spared. Families waiting for visitors arriving by car, bus, train, or plane were disappointed by the cancellations or the delays of anyone travelling. And the same was true for anyone wanting to leave town.
Thursday night the winds picked up. Power flickered throughout the area. By Friday morning branches and trees were toppled. Where trees landed on Hydro lines, power was immediately cut. On Wellington Street in Cowansville, two trees fell on lines. The first tree caught on fire and the fire department came. A line was on the road and traffic was halted. People could not drive up the street or leave the street. Then a second tree fell across a line, this one a twenty foot tall evergreen. If it had fallen first the fire would have been worse, as an evergreen would have created a much more intense fire.
