Bishop’s University’s board of governors chose to name the new student residence building on campus in honour of former Principal Janyne M. Hodder, DCL ’07, in recognition of her leadership of Bishop’s University and her contributions to higher education.
Hodder was the first woman to be appointed head of a university in Quebec.
She was Principal of Bishop’s from 1995 to 2004.
Through her focus on student recruitment and retention, Hodder helped grow the University while strengthening its commitment to liberal education.
Before serving as Principal of Bishop’s, Hodder was Assistant Deputy Minister, Services to the English-speaking Community, in Quebec’s Ministry of Education. After leaving Bishop’s she served as Vice-Principal, Inter-Institutional Relations at McGill University and President of the College of the Bahamas.
