In the face of mounting pressure from politicians and sponsors, Hockey Canada has announced its entire board of directors are stepping down and chief executive officer Scott Smith is leaving the organization effective immediately.
This decision comes a few days after Andrea Skinner, director and interim chair, resigned from Hockey Canada over the weekend. According to a press release, the board “agreed to step down to make room for a new slate of directors.” The hunt for a new board can now begin.
Hockey Canada intends to set up an interim management committee to guide the organization until a newly formed board of directors can officially appoint a new CEO. The board will be tasked with asking Hockey Canada members to select new directors no later than Dec. 17.
