Lennoxville’s giant pumpkin and harvest festival made its big return on Sunday, drawing a large number of local families for free pie, inflatable games, and a weigh off of unusually sizable squash.
Although Mike MacDonald, one of the founding members of the event, had estimated a smaller attendance this year in the lead up to Lennoxville’s giant pumpkin and harvest festival, he said he was pleased to see ten submissions come together for the competition in the end.
Despite having developed a split that the grower said threatened his pumpkin’s ability to hold together, MacDonald also managed to take the top honours in the competition with a weight of 1,330 lbs.
Richard Goodhue, another founding member of the group behind the annual event, said that he found this year’s pumpkins weighed in lighter than they looked based on his experience, although the crowd of onlookers didn’t seem to mind.
