Sherbrooke police warns residents of increase in vehicle thefts

The Sherbrooke Police Service (SPS) has notified residents of an uptick in stolen vehicles in the city, adding that the thefts occur mostly in the evening.

According to a press release, there were 77 vehicle theft complaints filed with the SPS in 2021. However, there have been 20 reported vehicle thefts in the city since January. The SPS wants to remind everyone to lock their vehicle doors before heading inside for the night.

The SPS noted that key fobs shouldn’t be left near the front door of any home. The city’s police service also mentioned the importance of working together with the community to combat vehicle theft. The neighbourhood watch program is one way to involve citizens.
