Sherbrooke stands in solidarity with France

Sherbrooke’s city council stood for a minute of silence at the beginning of its regular city council meeting on Monday night in honour and recognition of the victims of attacks in France on Friday night. Francois Gitzhofer, Honourary Consul of France in the Estrie region spoke to the council following the moment, thanking them for their thoughts and sharing the mutual feeling of surprise and horror that so many have expressed in the wake of the weekend attacks. Despite those feelings, however, Gitzhofer warned against taking extreme actions or restricting civil liberties in response, stating that it is by coming together in peace and communal support that we overcome the forces of fear.
