Lennoxville residents raise concerns about hazing as school starts back up

A video shared online of what appears to be a hazing or “initiation” ritual on the streets of Lennoxville sparked concern from several local residents over the weekend.
In the video a group of young people can be seen being marched down Parkdale Street, bent over and reaching out to touch the person in front of them in line while being berated by another group and hit with what appears to be pool toys.
“We were outside sitting on our deck (Saturday) night a little after nine and started hearing singing and yelling,” said Annie Duriez, who recorded the video, explaining that the sounds seemed to be approaching from the direction of College Street.
Curious, Duriez decided to head closer to see what the source of the sound was and ultimately opted to pull out her phone to take a video.
“That’s when I saw that it was a hazing, and I was actually quite shocked,” she said, calling the abusive practice barbaric. “I thought it was quite disturbing,” she shared, adding, “I didn’t think people did that anymore, but obviously they do.”
