Richmond is a community that has always been proud of its Irish Heritage and has come to be known far and wide for its Saint-Patrick’s Day celebrations. This year, the community is kicking things up a notch by turning the whole month of March into one long celebration of Irish culture in Canada. “We have a lot more activities this year,” said Erika Lockwood, President of the St. Patrick’s Society. “Thanks to funds received this year from Heritage Canada, and our partnership with the Historical Society, we are here to present a complete month of Irish activities.” In addition to the traditional mass and parade on March 17 to mark Saint Patrick’s Day, the society has also worked together with a range of local groups and organizations to plan 15 different musical, storytelling, and history-based events as well as a number of opportunities to sit down and have a good meal.
