The Annual SherBlues & Folk music festival is coming to Sherbrooke next week. From July 3 to the 7 more than 50 concerts featuring over 40 different artists will take place at indoor and outdoor venues in the heart of the city and beyond. “It’s the kind of festival I’ve always wanted to play,” said Sean Sroka, who is coming to Sherbrooke for the first time with his solo project “Ten Kills the Pack.” Sroka said that, based on what he has heard, SherBlues & Folk does a great job of staying within its genre in a world where larger blues and folk festivals often bring in big name rock or pop artists in the name of selling tickets.
The musician placed his work with Ten Kills the Pack within the modern-day genre of singer-songwriter, but said that is it the classic roots of folk music that really spoke to him. “After working with different groups and touring a bunch and recording different albums and EPs, you start writing songs that just don’t fit anything else you’re a part of,” he said. “The idea of Ten Kills the Pack as a solo project; it was always on the back burner and then eventually there was a moment that presented itself where I could either do this or keep going with the projects I was working on. In the end folk had a larger grasp on me.” See full story in the Friday, June 28 edition of The Outlet.
