Stanstead edges Galt in ETIAC soccer: Galt Spirit Day set for Friday

By Staff Writer

The Stanstead College senior boys soccer team hosted Alexander Galt on Wednesday for an Eastern Townships Interscholastic Athletic Conference game, with the host Spartans winning 3-2 over the Pipers. It was a close game with Stanstead fighting until the end and managing to score in the last few minutes of the game to break a 2-2 tie.
This is the second time the teams have met this season, however in the first game Pipers ended up on top with a 4-1 win.
Coach Steve Walker of the Pipers mentioned that his team did not take advantage of the opportunities given to them this game. He also said they were missing their regular goalie but luckily had defensemen Sean Warren to step in.
“They have now learned what it is like to lose and it doesn’t feel good. However you need to learn how to lose properly before you can win properly,” Walker said in an email explaining how he plans to work with his team so they can improve for next time.
The PIpers will be focusing on controlling their game and keeping possession of the ball, which includes stronger and quicker passes as well using every opportunity given to them throughout the game.
The Galt senior boys team will be playing again today, along with the junior and senior girls soccer teams, all playing against Massey Vanier High School at Alexander Galt’s Spirit day.
The Pipers football team will have their home opener against Du Phare on Friday as well. All games will take place at 2 p.m. with students decked out in school colours to show their school pride and cheer on the teams.
