Stanstead residents want more bank for their buck

By Matthew McCully – Community in Action, a Stanstead group concerned about the closure of the CIBC in Stanstead organized a demonstration of the importance of banks in small communities. Locals were asked to stop by the bank and make a transaction between 3:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. to show how many people rely on the institution. Traffic in and out of the bank was steady throughout the hour.
“It’s probably too late now,” said Barbara Heath, Community in Action member and one of the organizers of the demonstration. “But if we try nothing, we will get nothing.” While the internet is becoming the go-to source for most things these days, Heath said leaving Stanstead with no physical banking option is premature.
